Ultrasound is a safe and simple diagnostic procedure that uses high frequency sound waves inside the body to capture images of organs. There is no injection or radiation exposure with ultrasound procedures.
Ultrasound may be requested by your physician to diagnose such problems as pelvic or abdominal pain, breast abnormalities, kidney and thyroid systems, fetal development or venous studies. If your physician requests a ultrasound study, the office should call to schedule the test because it may require instruction on patient preparation.
During your exam, you may be asked to wear a gown, or the technologist may drape you. A conduction gel is applied to your skin and a transducer is passed over the area being studied. The images of the area will be captured on a monitor screen. Our radiologist interprets your study and reports the findings to your physician.
